Bradford City fans have got what they wanted this morning with the news Stuart McCall has been named as the man taking over from Gary Bowyer.
We covered their desire for their hero to return last night and within hours the owners have made the call and put McCall in charge for the third time with a deal running until the end of next season. He last left Valley Parade in January 2018 after guiding them towards the top six in League One, only for rogue owner Edin Rahic to destroy any progress.
The former Rangers midfielder is clearly delighted to be back at the club he spent two spells with as a player but admitted he felt for the previous manager too.
“I am naturally delighted to be here again and am fully focussed on the 15 games we have left to play,” he told the club’s official website.
“It is always difficult taking over from a manager who has lost his job, so I feel for Gary (Bowyer). But, when Julian (Rhodes) contacted me, I was desperate to return. We have to assess the squad very quickly and get ready for the remainder of the season. I obviously know a few of the players from my previous spell here, so am looking forward to the challenge.
“The club is a huge one in this division and, with everything still to play for, the job is to try and get us back to where we should be.”
The Bantams are currently eighth in the League Two table, one point outside the play-offs having played two games more than Cheltenham Town in seventh. That’s a situation these fans think could well change with the return of Mccall, a local hero.
