Graham Alexander Launches Bradford City Inquiry

Bradford City manager Graham Alexander has admitted he needs to get to the bottom of a recent slump in form following another defeat last night.

The Bantams entered League One after a 6-year absence this season following a third place finish in League Two. They have enjoyed an excellent start to life in the third tier, which was highlighted by 7 wins from their opening 10 games.

This saw the Yorkshire-based side top the table moving into October, but they have failed to win a league game since beating Blackpool on September 27th. Four successive draws throughout October was followed by a second defeat of the campaign last weekend when they went down 2-1 to Burton Albion at Valley Parade.

Bradford Relying On Others To Maintain League Position

Despite their recent winless run, Bradford still sit second in the division and 1 point off leaders Stockport County. However, that is mainly due to those around them also dropping points.

Bolton Wanderers were the only team to pick up a victory in the top 8 on Saturday, with the other 7 all losing. Prior to that, only Stockport had maintained any kind of form, with the likes of Cardiff City, Stevenage, Lincoln City and AFC Wimbledon all struggling to carry any momentum.

Alexander’s side could slip out of the automatic promotion places this weekend though, with their game against Plymouth Argyle postponed due to international call-ups. The only team within the top 6 scheduled to play on Saturday is Lincoln, who can move top if they beat Doncaster Rovers by 2 or more goals.

Alexander Makes ‘Brittle’ Admission

Although they were dropping points throughout October, Bradford weren’t losing games. Their result against Burton at the weekend was a bitter blow, but they had the chance to put that right and instil a bit of optimism last night in the EFL Trophy against Doncaster.

Having taken the lead in the first half through Tyreik Wright, it appeared as if a return to winning ways was on the cards. However, they capitulated after the break to eventually fall to a 3-1 defeat.

Speaking after the game, Alexander admitted that his team need to find their character and confidence again if they are to continue their push for a second successive promotion:

“I want us to think long and hard about what we want to be as a team.

“If we think we can stand four yards off everyone and be good enough to do that and win games… I can put a bible out in front of them that shows we have to be aggressive and on the front foot. As soon as we respect people and are fearful you’re dead anyway.

“I really don’t get it because we’re a newly promoted team and we’re second in League One. We’re one of the hardest teams to beat and we give them nothing but positive messages and then one pin prick can burst the confidence.

“We need to find our character and confidence again because at the moment it looks really brittle.”

Bradford return to action on November 22nd against one of the most in-form teams in League One when they travel to the Toughsheet Community Stadium to take on Bolton.
