‘Make the call’ – These Bradford City fans make it clear who they want to take over from sacked Bowyer

Bradford City became the third League Two club in a week to sack their manager, with Gary Bowyer losing his job following the 3-0 defeat against Oldham.

The ex-Blackpool and Blackburn boss has only been with the club for 11 months, coming in to replace David Hopkin who endured a similarly short spell in charge. The 48-year-old could not keep the club in League One last season, but after starting out as favourites in the fourth tier, they have since slipped out of the play-off spots.

The official statement, released this afternoon, quoted the Bantam’s interim chief executive, Julian Rhodes as saying: “He came to the club at a difficult time and inherited a team heading for relegation, which we were unable to avoid.

“Gary built a squad over the summer that has proven it is capable of competing at the right end of Sky Bet League Two. However, over the course of the last few months, results have undoubtedly declined.

“In view of recent events, we felt a change was necessary in order to compete for a play-off place. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Gary the very best for the future.”

The timing of the decision has left some Bradford fans perplexed, with the transfer window having just closed, with others speculating as to who they might see taking up the post at Valley Parade. Former boss Stuart McCall, who was sacked two years ago despite having them in the top six of League One, seems to be clear favourite.
