Bolton Wanderers’ fansite ‘Lion of Vienna Suite’ has asked the question whether they are a better side without their 19-year-old prodigy Ronan Darcy, sparking a bit of debate amongst Trotters’ fans.
The youngster has emerged from their youth team this season, playing senior football during the tough opening few weeks and since establishing himself as a first-team regular. At just 19-years-old, Darcy is proving to be a real handful for League One defenders and a bright light in a tough season for Bolton.
However, writer Chris Manning feels that perhaps Darcy isn’t the best option for them going forward, after seeing a three-man midfield of Luke Murphy, Jason Lowe and Ethan Hamilton overrun a weak Tranmere side at the weekend.
Manning also says: “I have felt that we have been too open in midfield, with his somewhat lightweight presence being largely ineffective in a division full of physicality. Would he be a more effective player for us in a higher league? I think so.”
It’s an interesting question and says as much about the level of football in the division as anything. Do Trotters’ fans feel that their exciting young talent leaves them looking lightweight in the more testing battles? or is quality enough to overcome physicality?
Bolton fans have responded with very mixed opinions, as you’ll see below.
Welcome to professional football. We’re if your good enough your old enough. Regardless.

Talking absolute bollocks m8 .. the kid brilliant and he should be played in the correct position.. the reason we was better was to do with Bryan at center half .. he made the keeper more confident he made nsala more confident also jason lowe . Plus tranmere are shit ..

Wouldn't put it like that. Lad has been outstanding playing AM before Politic came back from fitness. Just can't play the two of them, need to play one or the other / rotate.

Yes. We are. Very much like Mark Davies actually. Probably technically most gifted in the squad, but difficult to fit him in. Particularly in a physical league.

I think we'll need to see another game or 2 before we can judge for certain but based off yesterdays performance, it could certainly be the case

Should play the usual system with o'Grady instead of murphy up front he will cause errors and help with the press that darcy brings
