Bradford City fans expectation of an immediate return to League One were dealt another blow on Saturday after they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at a resurgent Oldham Athletic.
After watching high profile departures such as Eoin Doyle and James Vaughan in the transfer window, just short of 2000 hardy souls made the trip across the Pennines to watch Gary Bowyer’s men drop out the playoff positions.
An extremely lacklustre performance allowed Oldham to run riot after the game finally kicked-off half an hour late.
The delay was due to an advertising hoarding becoming dislodged, presenting health and safety concerns, which reflected the current state of the Latics, with recent reports suggesting all is not well behind the scenes at one of the Premier League’s founder members.
However, once the game started, improving Oldham were 3-0 up before the break, through goals by Dearnley, Smith, and Maouche.
The win moved Oldham into comfortable mid-table after a six-game unbeaten run. The performance was a further example of the excellent job Dino Maamria is doing at Boundary Park in testing circumstances, which is in stark contrast to the pressure mounting on Bantams boss Gary Bowyer at Valley Parade.
The reaction to a tweet from the club thanking the supporters who made the trip to Oldham perfectly highlighted the antipathy towards their under-fire boss.
Many fans took the opportunity to tell the club exactly what they thought of Bowyer and the direction the club is heading.
It would not have been comfortable reading for the Bantams hierarchy, as the following selection of responses illustrates.
Put your money where your mouth is. Back the fans and sack Bowyer and his useless sidekick Rylan Clarke. You’re allowing the club to die for the sake of saving face. He should’ve gone weeks ago and allow a new man to get Vaughan and Doyle scoring for us. #bcafc

If it means everything then listen to us all and sack the manager before it’s too late and some people don’t return. Just listen.

All for nothing. Absolutely spineless display from those players, absolutely embarrassing.

If they mean that much, sack Bowyer please.

I won't be coming back until they're both gone. I just can't watch the dross they are serving up any more, it's actually bocoming quite stressful. #bowyerout #druryout #bcafc

If you want that support to continue get rid of Bowyer asap.

'us' clearly doesn't include the players does it? I would cut my right arm off to represent BCFC and these chumps stroll round like they couldn't give a toss. 100% absolute commitment is the MINIMUM they should give, regardless of skill and talent.

Shame the team didn’t turn up ☹️

This time next season we will have the best non league stadium in the country. Unless you stem this abysmal so called football. Right now I would back the kids in the park with jumpers for posts beating us. Obviously the support means nothing to the players or muppet in charge.
