‘Fallen from grace’, ‘Championship standard’ – Plenty of fans react as Nottm Forest man makes EFL switch

Lincoln City pulled a late transfer window shock off last night, securing the services of Liam Bridcutt on loan until the end of the season.

Having seen top scorer Tyler Walker recalled by the same club, the Imps’ were facing a bleak deadline day, but the capture of the former Leeds and Chelsea man will doubtless temper their disappointment somewhat.

The 30-year-old started out at Chelsea as a youth and played for Yeovil, Stockport and Watford on loan during his time at Stamford Bridge. He made a permanent move to Brighton and Hove Albion from the Blues and helped them to promotion from League One.

His success there led to a move to Sunderland, for whom he played top-flight football before moves to Leeds for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in excess of £1m, then later to Forest again for £1m.

Bridcutt, who spent the first half of the season on loan with Bolton Wanderers, said of the move: “With the manager’s ambition, drive and knowledge of the game and my experience and quality, hopefully together we can achieve great things.”

Imps’ fans were delighted with the acquisition, with some highlighting how the relationship with Nottingham Forest is still as strong as ever, despite the Tyler Walker disappointment.
