A good weekend for Portsmouth got even better last night when news broke that sought-after winger Ronan Curtis had signed a new three and a half year contract, tying him to the club until 2023.
Pompey fans were already ecstatic after a 2-0 win over Sunderland moved them into the League One play-off places, but their mood got even better after it emerged the twenty-three-year-old had committed his future to the club.
There was much speculation during the transfer window that Curtis would leave the South Coast, with Blackburn Rovers one of several clubs thought to be interested.
The Republic of Ireland international has been in outstanding form this season, netting thirteen goals in thirty-three appearances, playing a pivotal role in Pompey’s surge up the League One table with some great goals and assists in recent months.
Portsmouth have now won eight games on the bounce in all competitions, and following a tricky start to the campaign, they are now one of the form sides heading into final few months of the season. With a return to the Championship a real possibility, a palpable feelgood factor is noticeable around the club.
The excellent mood was reflected in the reaction on social media to the latest good news, with many fans overjoyed a prize asset had put pen to paper on a new deal.
However, some were more cautious, feeling the deal was protecting the club if they didn’t go up, and predicted a big-money move for Curtis in the summer if Pompey don’t make the Championship.
Here is a selection of responses by Portsmouth fans to the news on Twitter.

Excellent news. If we go up, he’ll stay. If we don’t, then we can now ask for £5m
