‘It’s a joke’ – These Morecambe fans react angrily as Man Utd youngster completes League Two loan switch

Salford City continued their busy transfer window with confirmation they have signed Manchester United youngster George Tanner on loan for the rest of the season.

The twenty-year-old signed a season-long loan with Morecambe in the summer, but the Premier League giants have recalled him and immediately sent him back out to the Shrimps League Two rivals.

The versatile defender made twenty-nine appearances for Morecambe and made a big impression at the Globe Arena with some outstanding displays in a struggling side.

Many Morecambe supporters were already touting him as a possible Player of the Season and the news he’s switched to Salford did not go down well with plenty of fans when they reacted on social media.

Many believe the Premier League giants have behaved appallingly in allowing the player to join a club in the same division and suspect Salford’s well-publicised links with the Red Devils had a role to play in a move that severely weakens their side.

Salford remains unpopular amongst supporters in the lower leagues due in part to the considerable financial backing they get from Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of 92’ and billionaire businessman Peter Lim. The latest development has done nothing to enhance their reputation and fans from other clubs were just as indignant as the Shrimps faithful.

Here is a selection of angry responses to the switch by fans on Twitter.
