Morecambe boss Ashvir Singh Johal has continued to shape his new-look squad with the addition of three fresh signings ahead of the 2025/26 National League campaign.
The Shrimps have confirmed the arrivals of defenders Ben Williams and Ludwig Francilette alongside goalkeeper Archie Mair.
Defensive Reinforcements for Johal
Left-back Williams, 26, brings solid EFL pedigree having previously turned out for Barnsley and Cheltenham Town, as well as a brief spell in Morecambe’s academy during 2015. Recognised for his competitive edge and work ethic, he will wear the number 15 shirt at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
Johal was quick to underline the value of Williams’ experience at League One and League Two level, suggesting he can make an immediate impact.
“He is a left-back who has played multiple games in the League One and League Two so he is very experienced across the EFL and at a high level. He is someone who we know will be ready to make an impact straight away in the National League and help us push towards our objectives as a club,” Johal said.
Meanwhile, centre-half Francilette, also 26, has previously been part of Newcastle United’s set-up before spells with Crawley Town. His arrival adds further depth and competition to the defensive ranks as Johal continues to assemble a squad capable of challenging in the fifth tier.

Familiar Face Returns Between the Posts
The third new arrival sees goalkeeper Archie Mair, 24, return to Morecambe after a loan spell in 2024. Having come through Norwich City’s academy, Mair has gathered experience across the Football League and National League, earning a reputation for his sharp reflexes and calm presence.
Johal described the Scotland youth international as his number one target in the goalkeeping department.
“Archie was our number one target as a goalkeeper, we were eager to get him in the building and he’s excited to get going. He’s a young goalkeeper but the experience he’s had will help shape the mentality we have here,” Johal explained. “His skillset is outstanding, the way he plays with the ball at his feet is a perfect fit for how we want the team to play.”
Mair is expected to link up with his teammates immediately as preparations for the season continue, with Johal placing significant emphasis on his leadership qualities as well as his technical ability.

Johal’s latest moves highlight a clear plan to balance proven EFL know-how with players still eager to establish themselves. Williams offers solidity and familiarity with the English lower leagues, Francilette provides a fresh defensive option, and Mair returns with the chance to build on a promising previous stint.
The combination of experience, versatility and ambition suggests Morecambe are building a squad with resilience at its core. After a summer of change, these signings feel like further steps towards creating the identity Johal has spoken of since his appointment. If the trio settle quickly, the Shrimps may find themselves well positioned to compete strongly in what is always a demanding National League season.
