Gillingham have signed John Akinde from Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee.
The striker has left Sincil Bank eighteen months after arriving from Barnet, having scored twenty-five goals in eighty-one outings for the Imps.
He’s netted eight times so far this season despite being pushed to the fringes of Lincoln’s first-team following the arrival of the prolific Tyler Walker. Indeed, he scored twice in his final appearance for Lincoln in their recent 5-1 win over Bolton.
The thirty-year-old is perhaps best known for his spell at Barnet where he scored eighty-nine goals in four seasons for the Bees.
The experienced campaigner has also enjoyed spells at Bristol City, Wycombe, Brentford, Bristol Rovers, Dagenham and Alfreton. He previously worked under Gills boss Steve Evans at Crawley.
Gillingham have not disclosed the length of the deal and Evans will be hoping the powerful forward adds some punch to his forward options.
The new addition appears to have gone down well with plenty of Gillingham fans who were quick to praise the club on social media for getting the deal over the line.
The Improving Gills currently sit fourteenth in League One after a decent run of form, and many fans feel Akinde could be the spark to push the club on for a promotion challenge.
Here is a selection of delighted responses to the announcement confirming the signing on Twitter.
I think you'll find the Gills are going up.
