Manchester United flop Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to be handed a chance to revive his flagging career with a loan move to Oldham Athletic, as reported by Football Insider.
The full back has been training with the Latics since having his loan with Tranmere Rovers cut short after being left out in the cold at Old Trafford. He’s been on a downward spiral after several failed loans, including stints with Leeds United and relegated Scunthorpe United.
The 22-year-old looked set for stardom when he made 14 senior outings under Louis van Gaal in 2015/16, including appearances against Chelsea and Liverpool. His composed performances earned him a four-year deal at the end of the season, tying him to Old Trafford until 2020.
However, the former England Under 20 international flopped at Molineux and received heavy criticism from some United fans after joining bitter rivals Leeds on loan. He only played once for them before signing for Scunthorpe, playing 29 times as they were relegated.
He spent the first half of the season on loan at Prenton Park, but played just five times and was described as a waste of time by their supporters.
Our View
Welcome to Boundary Park, otherwise known as ‘Last Chance Saloon’ for Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
He was once the golden boy of Old Trafford, but the Leeds moved soured that. The fans wouldn’t forgive him for making the move to Elland Road and he didn’t do enough there to impress anyone.
Since then it’s been downhill all the way. he’s only 22, but he’s tumbled from the Premier League to League Two in double-quick time. Maybe, just maybe, this is the move to ignite his flagging career.
