Gillingham winger Mark Marshall has left the club upon the expiry of his short-term deal, as confirmed by their official site.
He made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Gills, last being seen as a second half sub against West Ham United in the FA Cup earlier this month.
Manager Steve Evans said of his departure “Mark has been a great professional in his short time with us. At times he has been unfortunate and we all wish him every success in the future.
“With the lowest budget in League 1 we have to try our best to make sure every penny we spend on players gives maximum value so hopefully we can add to the squad in the key areas I have identified.”
Marshall is much-travelled, having played for numerous clubs, including Bradford City, Coventry City and Barnet. He also spent one season with Port Vale, before agreeing on a two-year deal at Valley Parade, where he scored six times in 88 appearances.
Gillingham have been linked with a move for Lincoln City striker John Akinde and Evans spoke last week on not wanting to stretch the budget. It seems the former Leeds boss likes talking budgets, which is annoying some of the Gills supporters.
We begin our social media roundup with one fan wishing the Scot would stop talking down his side’s spending power.
Stop saying 'budget'. Pretty sure the likes of Accrington, Wimbledon, Tranmere, Rochdale and Shrewsbury would have something to say about these never-ending claims.

luckily we have great squad depth and an array of attacking options so i can’t see any reason to worry about another player leaving and nobody incoming ?

Surely ones coming in then? If O’Connor’s injured for Saturday then we won’t be able to field a full bench ?
