Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has been recalled from his loan spell at Prenton Park by parent club Manchester United.
The twenty-two-year-old signed for Tranmere on a season-long loan in the summer, but he’s failed to make his mark at Prenton Park, making only three League One outings which included just one start.
The early recall is a further blow to Borthwick-Jackson’s career. The young defender seemed destined for big things when he made fourteen senior outings under former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal in 2015/16, including appearances against Chelsea and Liverpool. His composed performances earnt him a new four-year deal at the end of the season, tying him to Old Trafford until 2020. However, his disappointing spell at Tranmere unquestionably puts his long-term future in doubt, although some distressed United fans are hoping his recall as nothing to do with rumours Ashley Young looks set to leave the club.
In all likelihood, the youngster will probably go back out on loan, and it appears he certainly needs to find some form if the opinion of Tranmere fans is to be believed.
Many didn’t hold back when they took to social media to react to the news, with some fans accusing the left-back of having a poor attitude and describing his spell at the club has a total waste of time.
Plenty of the Super White Army will not be losing any sleep over the player’s departure as the following selection of responses to the news illustrates.

Poor attitude did nothing to encourage me to take over paid Premiership players on loan.
Would rather we develop are own or take from the lower divisions.— tom barabus (@credigian) January 9, 2020
