Bradford City were held to a 2-2 draw by Scunthorpe United at Valley Parade yesterday after racing to a two-goal lead.
Goals from Akpan and Vaughan inside twenty-minutes put the Bantams in charge, but an Alex Gilliard strike from twenty-five yards on thirty-three minutes put the Iron back in the game before the break.
Paul Hurst’s men dominated the second-half and were eventually rewarded when John McAtee fired home with fifteen to go.
Bradford have now only won two of their last six games but jumped to fifth in the table after rivals Cheltenham lost to Crewe. However, they are eight points behind Swindon at the summit, and while their form has not been disastrous, they are without a win in three, and some fans are not happy, with many expecting nothing less than automatic promotion this season.
It was manager Gary Bowyer who bore the brunt of their frustrations when they took to social media to react to the result and Bowyer’s post-match press interview. Bowyer told the club’s official website he was disappointed to let the lead slip and blamed defensive errors, which he felt were out of character. He also said he believed Scunthorpe were a much better side than their mid-table league position suggests.
His view didn’t wash with many Bantams fans who feel Bowyer is under-performing at the well-supported club.
Here is a selection of responses to his comments on Twitter.
