Marcus Maddison has been the subject of an accepted bid from Championship side Charlton Athletic, as reported by Peterborough United’s own Twitter feed.
Posh are never afraid of keeping fans informed on the comings and goings at the club and this morning released a statement saying that Charlton had a bid accepted. Two other Championship clubs have also bid for the left-sided player, but as chairman Darragh MacAnthony explained, only one side have permission to talk to the player.
He tweeted: “Marcus Maddison Update – As of this morning @theposhofficial has accepted a bid from @CAFCofficial who have permission to talk terms with the player. 2 other championship clubs have bid for the player multiple times & do not currently have permission to speak to the player.
“Multiple news outlets have contacted me yesterday and today re knowing the details hence with all the speculation over the weekend I felt it right our fans know Current situation. There will be no more comments from me/club after today re this. Thanks.”
Maddison operates anywhere on the left side of the field, or behind the central striker and signed for Peterborough from Gateshead. The 26-year-old grew up as a Sunderland fan, but plied his trade at Newcastle as a youngster.
The reaction has been mixed to the news, although most Posh fans seem to think this is a huge blow to their promotion hopes and fans of other clubs have also taken the time to leave their comments.

Oh to be a fly on the wall when Lee Bowyer and Maddison clash over his lifestyle and time keeping habits. 🤦🏻♂️ Good luck Marcus it’s been a pleasure watching you but the time is right. We haven’t pushed on as a side with you in it so it’s time to take the money and move on UTP ⚽️💙

Been my personal favourite player for all the years he’s been at POSH, but he’s run his course at this club, wish him all the best for the future

Gonna be gutted to see him go but if he wants to leave then we can't get in the way. Hopefully it's a good fee that was accepted!
