Shrewsbury Town are looking to offload forward Fejiri Okenabirhie, with League One rivals Doncaster eyeing a permanent deal according to the Shropshire Star.
The Shrews are tucked into the middle of the pack in League One and were held 1-1 by Lincoln City this weekend. They’re a sound defensive unit and organised in midfield, but have only scored 22 goals this season; fewer than everyone other than Bolton Wanderers.
That’s prompted Sam Ricketts to take a serious look at his forward line and it seems Okenabirhie, who is out of contract next summer, is going to be the first to go.
He bagged 16 times for the Shrews last season and finished as top scorer, but has managed just three this season and was left out of their last three matchday squads. With Doncaster desperately looking for a figurehead for their attack, it seems he could be about to swap Shropshire for South Yorkshire to move to Darren Moore’s side.
Okenabirhie started out as a youth at Arsenal and spent time with Stevenage, but joined Shrewsbury 18 months ago from National League Dagenham & Redbridge. He’s a former England C international and would be joining a side currently eighth in the division if he moves to Doncaster.
Clearly Sam Ricketts and Town are shopping for reinforcements in the forward role. #salop

Ricketts loses big respect for this

Neither Askey or Ricketts really took to Fejiri unfortunately. I still see no evidence that we have a better striker.

This could back fire on us.

In that picture he looks totally demoralised. Not a problem with the player, the problem is with the boring, slow and predictable way the manager wants town to play. He spends most of his time trying to win the ball in the air against 2 big c/backs.

Will miss his goals but his workrate on the pitch is poor….very lazy…..we've needed a goalscorer for seasons now not just under Ricketts…..

Cummings will be out the door next, as he can’t play up front by himself either. Let’s just hope it’s a loan rather than permanent so our new manager can get the best out of him.
