Ipswich interested in 24-year-old Premier League defender

Ipswich have been linked with Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry as reported by the Newcastle Chronicle via twtd.co.uk.

The report claims Sterry has been offered to Championship outfit Luton Town in a proposed loan move but suggests the Tractor Boys have also been scouting the full-back.

The twenty-four-year-old is out of contract with the Magpies in the summer, and he’s not featured in the Premier League plans of Steve Bruce this season. The Geordie has featured in the EFL Trophy and but he’s failed to add to his three Premier League substitute appearances this term.

The right-back enjoyed a decent loan spell at Coventry City in 2016/17 making twenty appearances, and he’s also spent time at Crewe, although he failed to break in the first-team in his second stint at the end of last season making only one appearance.

Twtd claim Ipswich are eyeing Sterry as cover for Kane Vincent-Young who is out injured until the end of February leaving Janoi Donacien the only fit senior out-and-out right-back in Paul Lambert’s League One promotion-chasing squad.

Our View

Speculation over Sterry signing a permanent deal at Portman Road is rife on Twitter.

He’s got League One experience, and after becoming frustrated at his home town club, he’s at an age where he will want to kick on with his career.

Could be a decent signing for the Tractor Boys if the story has substance.
