Oldham set to sign Premier League youngster on loan

Oldham Athletic look set to sign Burnley defender Christian N’Guessan on loan according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon is usually a reliable source of transfer information, and he’s tweeted this morning that the twenty-one-year-old is about to arrive at Boundary Park.

N’Guessan signed a two year deal with the Premier League outfit in 2017 after impressing in Blackpool’s youth teams. He previously made it as far as the bench for the Seasiders in a Checkatrade Trophy game.

The youngster was a regular in the Burnley under-23s in his first season at Turf Moor and started the 2018/19 in impressive style.

Ankle surgery then hampered his progress, but he returned fit by the end of the season to trigger a new 12-month contract, and he’s continued to impress this season, scoring a late winner in a recent hard-fought win over an experienced Hull Under-23s side being one of his campaign highlights so far.

Nixon claims the move would be a good experience for N’Guessan who has also spent time in central midfield for the Clarets academy teams and has been tipped for big things by the coaching staff at Turf Moor.

Our View

We are not experts on the Burnley Under-23s, but we do know Oldham need to strengthen after a disappointing first half of the season that has left many fans fearing relegation.

The signing might work, but we can’t help feeling a bit more experience is needed if Dino Maamria is not only going to steady the ship but move the club forward.
