Blackpool trying to end striker’s Sunderland nightmare according to journalist

Blackpool are looking to end Will Grigg’s nightmare spell on Wearside, but any deal is dependent on Sunderland contributing towards the high earner’s wages according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon is usually a reliable source of transfer information, and he tweeted yesterday the Seasiders are in for the Northern Ireland international.

It is only a year since Grigg arrived at the Stadium of Light to fire the Black Cats back to the Championship, but the big-money move from Wigan has been a failure of dramatic proportions. The twenty-eight-year-old has scored just eight goals in forty-six outings and hasn’t featured this campaign since December 14 amidst continuing poor form and a resulting loss of confidence.

Speculation regarding a loan move to Blackpool began last month despite Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson stating he was not considering letting his misfiring frontman leave in January.

Grigg has found the net once since the former Bolton boss took over at Sunderland in October. Still, Parkinson continues to publicly back a striker who’s been a massive disappointment to the Stadium of Light faithful.

Our View

It will be interesting to see if Sunderland look to cut their losses on Grigg this window.

Everything points to the player being extremely unhappy at the club, and there seems little chance of him finding his form.

Blackpool are bracing themselves for offers forĀ Armand Gnanduillet so a move for Grigg would make sense for all parties if they can resolve the finance side of the deal.

Nixon is tweeting nothing new but the fact he is intimating Blackpool are still interested is significant and could mean it is a deal that could happen.
