Lincoln City eye move for 17-goal National League striker

Lincoln City are one of several clubs eying a move for National League top scorer Rhys Murphy as reported by Football Insider.

The Yeovil Town forward is in fine form this season with seventeen goals to his name. He’s played a crucial role in the Glovers serious challenge for an immediate return to the EFL, and the report claims a source at the club has revealed Lincoln have been sending scouts to Huish Park to keep tabs on the twenty-nine-year-old along with League One rivals MK Dons.

Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle from League Two are also reportedly interested in Murphy who signed a two-year deal with the Somerset outfit in the summer after netting twenty-eight goals for Chelmsford City during their National League South campaign in 2018/19.

Starting at Arsenal where he failed to make an impact, the former Republic of Ireland youth international is much travelled, having appeared for a multitude of lower league sides including Forest Green, Crawley, Oldham and Gillingham. He also enjoyed a spell in Holland early in his career before finally and consistently finding his scoring boots at Chelmsford.

According to the report, Yeovil are keen to keep hold of Murphy as they look to maintain their promotion bid. However, they are bracing themselves for offers for their sought-after striker before the end of the month, with the Imps very much in the frame to land the National League’s leading scorer.

Our View

Not sure on this one Lincoln fans.

Football Insider is a credible source, but Imps manager Michael Appleton likes to develop young talent and move them on for a profit.

We are not sure a twenty-nine-year-old fits the model he implemented so successfully at Oxford.

Murphy might leave Yeovil this month, but we seriously doubt his destination will be Sincil Bank.
