League One high-flyers Peterborough United want Rangers flop Greg Docherty as reported by The Scotsman via the Peterborough Telegraph.
The midfielder has made just nineteen appearances for Rangers since arriving at Ibrox from Hamilton for £600,000 in January 2018.
He sent last season on loan at Peterborough’s League One rivals Shrewsbury, making fifty outings and scoring ten times.
Despite an excellent campaign in Shropshire, he’s failed to kick on since his return to the Glasgow giants. The twenty-three-year-old has not featured since August, and the exit door appears to be beckoning for a player who still has two and a half years remaining on his Rangers contract.
Posh are currently third in League One, eight points off the top of the table and the report claims they are keen to bolster their squad during the January transfer window as they look to kick on and secure promotion back to the Championship.
The report also claims manager Darren Ferguson was impressed with what he saw from Docherty last season and made a move for him in the summer, but the midfielder opted to stay at Ibrox to fight for his place.
According to the report, Ferguson is now looking to try once again to lure his target to London Road but whether it will be a loan or a permanent deal for the Rangers outcast is unclear.
Our View
Some Rangers fans are scratching their heads over the Docherty situation.
They feel he should have been given more of a chance by Gerrard and many fans rate him highly.
Other Scottish clubs would be keen to sign a player who impressed in League One last season.
If Ferguson gets his man, it would be an excellent signing for Posh.
However, some Peterborough fans are already putting two and two together and concluding if Docherty arrives, it could mean the departure of sought-after Marcus Maddison.
It will be an interesting January at London Road.
