‘Pack it in’, ‘You’re not helping’ – These Sunderland fans react to latest club social media post

Sunderland’s social media team have been excelling themselves once again, reminding fans of the better times the club have had.

Many supporters feel that their recent 3-0 defeat against Scunthorpe was the lowest point in their history; this is the first season in their history they’re in the third tier for a second successive season. The defeat bumped them out of the EFL Trophy and they’re facing a replay in the FA Cup.

They’re struggling in the league and have suffered decline over the past six months, seeing a double Wembley heartbreak and failure to earn a deserved promotion. Instead of consoling fans and playing down their history, the social media team are reminding fans what they’ve missed out on.

Ten years ago today they won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck all bagging. It was a real high point for supporters that season, but it’s history now.

That’s how supporters feel having seen their side beaten by the likes of Wycombe and Lincoln this season and as these fans explain, they’re not happy at being constantly reminded of their past.

Instead, they want to see an improvement in their future, but on recent form, even a cup tie at Stamford Bridge is a million miles away right now.
