Sunderland’s social media team have been excelling themselves once again, reminding fans of the better times the club have had.
Many supporters feel that their recent 3-0 defeat against Scunthorpe was the lowest point in their history; this is the first season in their history they’re in the third tier for a second successive season. The defeat bumped them out of the EFL Trophy and they’re facing a replay in the FA Cup.
They’re struggling in the league and have suffered decline over the past six months, seeing a double Wembley heartbreak and failure to earn a deserved promotion. Instead of consoling fans and playing down their history, the social media team are reminding fans what they’ve missed out on.
Ten years ago today they won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck all bagging. It was a real high point for supporters that season, but it’s history now.
That’s how supporters feel having seen their side beaten by the likes of Wycombe and Lincoln this season and as these fans explain, they’re not happy at being constantly reminded of their past.
Instead, they want to see an improvement in their future, but on recent form, even a cup tie at Stamford Bridge is a million miles away right now.
Here. Pack in with all this eh? All it does is depress us that we used to be canny good and now we are and absolute basket case of a shambles.

Sharp crisp football from Sunderland is a phrase you don’t hear often

Given our current situation this is nothing short of bloody depressing! Would give my right arm to be back at that level.

Used to love these nostalgia trips.
Now they're just utterly depressing.
At least we're being consistent I suppose.

Trying to remind us why we support the team whilst making it even more obvious how far we’ve fallen and the utter shite that we are now. Great.

Please you really need to stop doing these things you know. You're not helping things between fans and club doing them, if we were fighting for promotion back to premier then its be ok. But were now a bog standard league 1 club man
