Bradford City have finally been told they can sign Chris Taylor, almost three weeks after the original deal collapsed, as reported by the club’s website.
The former Bolton man had been set to hook up with Gary Bowyer again in October, had previously worked with the Bantams’ boss at Blackpool and Blackburn, but the move hit the buffers after it emerged he’d previously appeared as a trialist for Barrow in an FA Lancashire Cup tie.
That led to the FA and EFL failing to give the Bantams assurances they wouldn’t be hit with a points deduction for fielding the player, leading to the move collapsing.
That resulted in some supporters claiming they’d dodged a bullet after his substandard performances elsewhere, but Bowyer has now got his man, with the 32-year-old penning a two-month contract.
“After one of the strangest periods in my life, I am delighted and over the moon to finally be a Bradford City player,” said Taylor, who also played for Millwall.
“I am looking to play my part in what will hopefully be a special season for the club. I honestly cannot wait to pull on the shirt and get going!”
Bradford are currently second in the League Two table, one point behind Forest Green Rovers and level with Crewe and Swindon.
Our View
I’m not sure this is such great news. A two-month deal hardly screams confidence and although he could play against Rochdale tonight, I’d wager he doesn’t start a league fixture.
He trialled at Barrow; was he not offered a deal? If not, why not? Even if he was, I’m not convinced a 32-year-old winger is what Bradford City need. They’ve got age and experience in the attack, they need youth and energy in my opinion.
I think this will prove to be a move that’s swept under the carpet come January.
