Peterborough United suffered their second defeat in a row last night, losing 1-0 at hard to beat Shrewsbury Town.
A lacklustre display by Darren Ferguson’s men saw them unable to muster a reply to Ebanks-Landell’s goal just before half-time. They even managed to waste a second-half lifeline when highly-rated Marcus Maddison saw his penalty saved by experienced Shrewsbury keeper Joe Murphy.
The result moved an improving Salop side up to eleventh, two points outside the play-offs and kept Posh in third, five points behind leaders Ipswich, who added to Ferguson’s woes by winning away at Rochdale while his men struggled in Shropshire.
The controversial Peterborough boss caused some consternation in East Anglia prior to his team’s defeat at Blackpool on Saturday when he suggested Posh could have been top of the League Two pile if Ipswich had not played Bolton’s youth team earlier in the season, a game the Tractor Boys won 5-0.
After another unfortunate result for one of their main promotion rivals, Ipswich fans were quick to remind Ferguson of his comments when they took to social media to bask in the glory of opening up a five-point over his stuttering side.
