Keith Hill has seen another of his fragile squad go down with an injury, Ali Crawford set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in their EFL Trophy match.
The Trotters earned back to back wins by turning over Manchester City Under 21s in the competition after naming a strong first-team squad for the fixture. Crawford opened the scoring with a Chris O’Grady brace bringing home three points in the group.
A Yoan Zouma own goal was all the City kids had to show for their endeavour, although they enjoyed a lion’s share of the possession.
Crawford is understood to have damaged his knee ligaments during the game, which will rule him out for a significant spell. The former Hamilton Academical man has been impressive since joining from Doncaster but Hill believes he’ll come back stronger.
“It’s a consequence of playing sport,” he said.
“If you don’t want to get injured then you shouldn’t play. You have to go out and express yourself physically on the pitch, you can’t hide or go one foot in, one foot out.
“As a consequence to loving the game of football Ali got injured but he’ll come back stronger for it, no question about it, along with the rest of the players who are out.”
Bolton are in the grip of an injury crisis with the likes of Jack Hobbs, Liam Bridcutt and Thibaud Verlinden all out of action. This latest blow is something these fans feel could be hugely damaging for their desperate attempts to stay in League One.
