‘Have you made a mistake here?’ – Some Carlisle fans ask important questions of key figure

Steven Pressley has admitted he understands Newcastle’s frustrations around the future of their loan man Elias Sorensen, as reported by their official site.

The Toon striker joined Carlisle on loan in the summer and was described as the manager’s ‘main target’ when he arrived at Brunton Park. Since then he’s started just once in League Two, with a further five outings from the bench.

Two starts in the EFL Trophy have not been enough to placate Newcastle Under 23 boss Neil Redfearn, who admitted earlier in the week he could recall the striker.

That’s prompted Pressley to admit that he understands the Newcastle stance over their player.

“I think Neil is right to say that,” he said.

“If I was Newcastle United and I was Neil Redfearn then my concern would be for the development of my young player who is out on loan, and if he’s not getting game time then fully understandably I’d be thinking that the situation would need to be reviewed.

He did defend the Cumbrians treatment of the player despite his lack of games.

“The thing is that whether he’s playing or not, the one accusation that can never be made about the situation is the way he’s been treated. Elias has been looked after extremely well by us, and I think Newcastle know that.”

Carlisle fans, who are not exactly over-impressed with Pressley this season, were quick to take to Twitter and offer their thoughts on the situation.
