Mason Bloomfield joined League Two Crawley Town on a season-long loan from Norwich City in the summer, and after waiting until October for his first goal, he now has two in two games.
The powerful twenty-two-year-old scored his first goal last week in the Red Devils 3-1 defeat to high-flying Forest Green Rovers, and he appears to have finally found his scoring touch after he headed home from close range to clinch a 2-1 win over Colchester United at the weekend.
It was Bloomfield’s sixth League Two start for Crawley, and he appears to be enjoying life in Sussex with big games to come including a fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against Saturday’s opponents.
Speaking to the club’s official website after the victory he appeared relaxed and confident as he outlined how he’d settled in well and after finally finding the back of the new he felt sure there were more goals to come. He said: “It took a while to get the first one, but I always knew when the first came, the rest will come as well, so hopefully there will be some more.’
Bloomfield signed for Norwich from National League outfit Dagenham and Redbridge in 2018, and he’s previously enjoyed loan spells last season at Hamilton in Scotland and AFC Fylde in the National League, which was unfortunately cut short through injury.
Our View
Bloomfield is an excellent example of a Premier League youngster going out on loan at an unfashionable League Two club and learning his trade.
Now he’s broke his duck; we expect him to score quite a few this season to either impress his parent club or put himself in the shop window for a permanent move if the Canaries feel he’s surplus to requirements in the summer.
