‘Fitted in well’ – Many fans react as controversial 26-year-old makes Swindon debut

Dion Donohue’s short-lived spell out of football ended this weekend as he signed for Swindon Town and made his debut as they drew 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle.

Donohue signed for Mansfield Town after leaving Portsmouth in the summer, but was sacked before the transfer deadline after being released on bail for assault. That meant he could sign for a new club, if one could be found, and despite wanting a move up north after leaving Fratton Park, he’s back down in the south of the country.

He began his career with Chesterfield, winning their Players’ Player of the Year in 2016/17. He later moved to Portsmouth on a two-year-deal for an undisclosed fee and was part of the squad that won the EFL Trophy last season, but he left after opportunities became limited.

He’s now looking to rebuild his career and reputation under Richie Wellens at Swindon Town, with the Robins currently seventh in the table. Donohue, a midfielder by trade, slotted in at full back and gave a comfortable display.

Swindon fans have been reacting to his transfer all weekend, with the pick of their thoughts included below.
