’24 points to safety!’ – These delighted Crewe fans react as the Railwaymen go top of League Two

Two late goals from Crewe saw them secure their eighth win of the season and send them to the summit of League Two at Brunton Park on Saturday.

The Railwaymen looked to be coasting to victory after goals from Hunt and Powell had given them a 2-0 lead at half-time, but Carlisle rallied to level through second-half goals from Hope and Elliott.

However, Crewe were not to be denied, and a Chris Porter strike followed by a Gethin Jones own goal gave them all three points and sent them to the top of the table on goal difference from Exeter City.

David Artell has been given the time to build a vibrant young side at Gresty Road and the patience of the Crewe board now seems to be bearing fruit. In seasons gone by, Artell’s men may not have recovered from losing a two-goal advantage, but it now appears they have added some resilience to the side that’s always been renowned for its good football.

This campaign is their fourth in League Two following their relegation from League One in 2016, but it now appears the Alex have a serious shot at promotion for the first time since they arrived back in the bottom tier.

Many fans were rightly delighted with their current position when they took to social media to react to the result but recent disappointments and several years in the doldrums mean some are not counting their chickens just yet.

Here is a small selection of the reaction on Twitter from Crewe supporters to the news their team are top of the league.
