‘Every week a new low’ – These Oldham fans react to 6-1 thrashing at Mansfield

Oldham had two players sent off in the same passage of play and went on to lose 6-1 at Mansfield on Saturday in the latest dreadful day for supporters of the Latics.

Up until the thirty-seventh minute, Oldham was just about in the game at 2-0 down but never recovered from the double blow and capitulated to a heavy defeat against a Mansfield side that had been under pressure before the game after struggling at home so far this season.

The dismissals of Filipe Morias and Tom Egert left Oldham boss Dino Maamria fuming after watching his remaining nine players succumb to constant Stags pressure. The result was a massive boost or John Dempster in the Mansfield dugout as the Stags moved up to fifteenth but left Oldham deep in the mire just four points above bottom club Morecambe in twenty-first.

Fans soon to took to social media to react to the result and a familiar feeling expressed is one of apathy in the face of what looks likely to be a League Two relegation battle this season for one of the Premier League’s founder members. Lack of investment and constant rumours of the owner meddling in team affairs are looking to be dragging the famous old Lancashire club into serious difficulties, but fans generally remained stoic rather than angry at the club’s plight.

It is not a great time to be a supporter of the club at the moment, but it is apparent from the complimentary reaction by Mansfield supporters, the travelling faithful remained behind their team throughout the extremely disappointing afternoon.

Here is a selection of responses to the result on Twitter.
