Rangers eye move for EFL striker

Rangers are eying a move for Bolton Wanderers striker Ronan Darcy as reported by Football Insider.

The report claims sources at Ibrox have told them Rangers have scouted the young forward, joining several English clubs in keeping tabs on the teenager ahead of the January transfer window.

The eighteen-year-old came through the ranks at the University of Bolton Stadium, making his senior debut in the final game of last season in the Championship. He’s gone on to make eight further outings for the Trotters this campaign and scored his first senior goal in a 5-2 defeat at Rochdale in the League Cup in mid-August. However, his first-team chances have become limited after boss Keith Hill bolstered his ranks with a deadline day spree of nine new signings following the successful takeover of the club at the end of August.

According to Football Insider journalist Wayne Veysey, Bolton now face a fight to keep hold of the young prospect whose contract runs out next summer, with Rangers amongst a clutch of clubs looking to test the financial resolve of Bolton after their recent well documented issues, and lure the striker away from the League One outfit with a bargain fee in January.

Our View

Rangers continue to scour the EFL for young talent, so there could be something in the story.

Speculation around the future of the striker is gathering pace, with Leicester City also recently linked with the youngster.

Darcy is a talent with a bright future, but suitors may find that Bolton is now in a position to keep hold of the starlet and refuse offers from bigger clubs looking for a bargain and in our view, his immediate future would be brighter staying in Lancashire and learning the game under the guidance of veteran manager Keith Hill.
