Blackpool and Bolton played out a dull 0-0 draw last night in front of the Sky cameras in a poor advert for League One football at the University of Bolton Stadium.
It left Bolton, currently seventeen points from safety, still looking for their first win of the season although they proved to be more than a match for high-flying Blackpool.
Keith Hill’s men have not won a game since the end of March, but they looked the side most likely to break the deadlock, even after losing their skipper Liam Bridcutt to injury after half an hour, forcing the Seasiders keeper Jak Alnwick into excellent saves from Daryl Murphy and an Ali Crawford free-kick.
A win would have moved Simon Grayson’s men up to third, but they looked uninspired and lacklustre for much of the game, with the absence of midfielder Jordan Thompson, away on international duty with Northern Ireland, keenly felt.
Blackpool fans travelled in good numbers, with 2164 making the trip to their local rivals but many were left bitterly disappointed by the performance against the divisions whipping boys, and plenty soon took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Some fans directed much of their anger at the performance towards manager Simon Grayson who came in for criticism for his perceived negative tactics against a side many Seasiders felt they should have beaten comfortably.
Blackpool have had an impressive start to the season, but Grayson was not popular last night, as the following selection of responses to the result on Twitter illustrate.
He's lost the plot Grayson , last few clubs he has struggled ! Embarrassing that against a team yet to win a game !

Can I have that 90 mins of my life back please? Defensive football belongs in the past

Absolutely dreadful negative performance. Same garbage every game and the buck stops with Grayson

He thinks we did ok? Clueless, one of the worst games I’ve ever seen.

His biggest mistake was not to get a proven goal scorer at this level in the transfer window , 25 a season man makes all the difference to belief an confidence but he should know that hopefully ⚽️

Diversion tactics. Grayson set up for a draw and we scraped it because Bolton are crap. Three local away games with big support that we should be winning, three dour points. Grayson scared of defeat. He's killing the dream and feelgood factor. Dreading Highbury.

Just a heads up, don’t watch Simon Grayson’s after match reaction if you’ve not seen it yet a lot of you won’t like it, talk about papering over the cracks.

SG doesn’t believe in his players why should they believe in him – negative tactics again league position is not the priority in my book – exciting forward thinking football is what the starved fans want a team that wears its heart on their sleeves that’s what our fans expect

After that borefest last night, reached the conclusion we have decent enough players but Grayson needs a plan B and a big tactical shake up. Saving grace is this League is poor so we are in with a shout as much as anyone … good morning and #UTMP anyway ?♀️
