Sunderland host League Two Grimsby Town tonight in their opening game in the EFL Trophy, a competition in which they reached the final last season.
Coming so soon after the Black Cats dreadful performance at Lincoln on Saturday, the game in the controversial tournament was always going to be a difficult sell for the Wearsiders media and commercial departments and so it appears after reading the reaction to two announcements concerning the match on the club’s official Twitter account.
Many fans were more keen to see manager Jack Ross sacked and expressed the hope the club are knocked out early to allow them to concentrate on their main ambition of promotion back to the Championship.
Apathy appears to be rearing its ugly head at the Stadium Of Light. Many fans arrived late and left early at Sincil Bank at the weekend, and despite the club pricing tickets for tonight’s encounter at only £3, it seems there will be plenty of empty seats at the Stadium of Light tonight.
Here is a small selection of responses to the club’s attempt the generate some interest in tonight’s match.
I don't think so!!!!!!

I can't express to you enough the number of things i'd rather do than watch our reserves play Grimsby. Sack Jack Ross please. Many thanks, all SAFC fans.
