Swindon went down 2-1 in the League Two clash of the day at Bradford City on Saturday, a game which marked the debut of new signing Gabriel Zakuani.
Swindon only announced the former Gillingham defender had signed on Friday, but he went straight into the team to face the Bantams at Valley Parade and made a good impression with a battling display.
As reported on The Real EFL, Robins boss Richie Wellens was forced to look at the free-agent market after an injury to skipper Dion Conroy left his defensive cover looking threadbare, and we tipped Zakuani as a possible option last week.
The former Gills captain was released from his contract by the Kent outfit in September to enable him to find a new club after seventy-one appearances across all competitions. His successful spell at Priestfield ended in agony in February when he suffered a severe knee injury, but he convinced Wellens he was fit and ready and went straight into the side for the encounter with the Robins promotion rivals.
Despite the defeat, the thirty-three-year-old showed no effects from his injury and posted a positive tweet on social media after the match, thanking Swindon fans for their welcome and promising there was more to come after an impressive debut.
It was a sentiment shared by many Robins supporters when they responded to the tweet, with plenty of fans very complimentary about the no-nonsense defender’s efforts.
Here is a selection of responses to Zakuani’s tweet and reaction his debut on Twitter.

The big takeaway was that Gabriel Zakuani came in and did a good job. But, Baudry and Conroy seem to have been the linchpins in building attack from defence. McCormick was criticised in kicking long in social media, maybe it was too early for a new defender for the short ball.
