The Posh Complete Stunning Victory
Peterborough United delivered a sensational 3-0 hammering to league leaders Stockport County at London Road, sending a shock through League One.
Stockport arrived top of the table after a flying start, while Posh began the night in 23rd following a disastrous opening that saw Darren Ferguson sacked yet again.
The tone was set after just 6 minutes when Ben Woods ghosted into the box and delicately passed the ball into the net from just inside the area. Kyrell Lisbie doubled the lead with a confident finish, leaving Stockport shell-shocked and unable to find any rhythm.
County boss Dave Challinor reacted at the break by throwing on Stoke loanee Nathan Lowe, who forced a half-chance with a header, while Jack Diamond flashed a shot wide from the left wing. Former Posh forward Malik Mothersille finally returned to Cambridgeshire after his summer exit and received a hostile welcome to say the least from the home crowd.
The game was killed off 15 minutes from time when 20-year-old midfielder Brandon Khela got on the end of a lightning counter-attack and smashed home a superb third goal past veteran shot stopper Ben Hinchcliffe, Posh’s first shot of the second half. Stockport have now lost back-to-back games 3-0 and drop to 2nd level on points with new leaders Lincoln City.

The Unbeaten Run Continues: How Has Luke Williams Changed The Posh?
Since Luke Williams arrived after his February sacking from Swansea City and a brief spell working at Bristol Airport, Peterborough United have been transformed. 4 wins from 4 in all competitions, including an FA Cup victory over Cardiff, a 5-0 thrashing of Wimbledon and success at Crawley in the EFL Trophy, capped by tonight’s stunning upset against Stockport County.
Williams built his reputation on fast possession-based football at previous clubs, most notably at Notts County, yet his Posh side looked perfectly comfortable sitting deep and inviting pressure before striking on the break. The possession stats made grim reading for the visitors as Posh controlled the game without needing the ball for long periods with a close 46% of the ball.
The defensive organisation was the standout, the counter-attacks lethal and the energy levels relentless. From a side staring at relegation just weeks ago, Williams has instilled belief, discipline and a clear identity, whilst adapting his own personal style. Four straight wins, 3 clean sheets and 11 goals scored tells the whole story.
Peterborough United are suddenly the form team in League One and climbing fast. The London Road faithful are daring to dream again under a manager who has wasted no time making his mark.
