Portsmouth’s woeful start to their League One campaign continued yesterday with a 1-0 defeat at high-flying Wycombe Wanderers.
A bad-tempered match in which both sides had a man sent off was finally settled when Adebayo Akinfenwa slotted home a late penalty after Tom Naylor handled inside the box.
While the result leaves the Chairboys in an impressive third, Pompey are currently languishing in twentieth, just two points above the relegation places. They have managed only one league win so far this season, and the pressure is mounting on manager Kenny Jackett, with the many of the 2125 away fans chanting for his sacking towards the end of the game.
It has undoubtedly been a tough period for Pompey and social media around the club is quite hostile at the moment, but this did not stop goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray posting a tweet after the game calling for everyone to stick together and thanking Portsmouth’s impressive away following.
Most fans responded well to the tweet, perhaps realising given the state of the team’s results at the moment it was quite brave, while others took the chance to tell their keeper they have had enough of his boss and want him out.
A few took the opportunity to tell the player they do not just blame the manager, with some fans feeling the players have downed tools.
Here is a selection of responses to the goalkeeper’s tweet.
Well done for coming on Twitter Craig. But something has to change. If I didn't know better I would say that the players had lost interest in either playing for the Club or the Manager. That was embarrassing today

Well played Craig and I am 100% behind the team but I no longer think KJ is the right man to lead you guys. Play Up Pompey and keep your chins up #jackettout

Results won’t just turn without a change in approach; sticking with something broken is foolish; fans had enough of current approach. Change IS required.
