Rotherham United striker suffers worrying injury setback

Rotherham United striker Kyle Vassell has suffered a worrying injury setback as reported by the Sheffield Star.

Millers boss Paul Warne was hopeful Vassell would be available for selection this weekend having missed the last three games with a hamstring problem.

However, the twenty-six-year-old broke down on his return to training and will miss the visit of Shrewsbury Town.

Vassell has scored one goal in his six appearances across all competitions for the Millers so far this season, having arrived at the New York Stadium in the summer of 2018 following an impressive spell with Blackpool.

He scored twenty-two league goals in fifty-three league outings for the Tangerines, but his career at Rotherham has so far been disappointing, having made only twenty-seven league outings without finding the net, with persistent injury problems hampering his progress.

Better news for Millers fans is that winger Chiedozie Ogbene maybe just ten days away from a return to training after making good progress recovering from his own problems with a hamstring injury.

Our View

Vassell has not had a happy time in South Yorkshire and many Millers fans are losing patience with the misfiring frontman.

He looked good in pre-season, but once again, injury is threatening to disrupt his season severely.

He proved during his spell at Blackpool he can cut it in League One with eleven goals in 2017/18, but unless the powerful forward can stay on the grass for an extended period, he might find his days at Rotherham numbered.
