‘Do we need him?’ ‘Strange one for me’ – These Tranmere Rovers fans debate new signing

Tranmere Rovers have signed former Bury captain and experienced midfielder Neil Danns.

Danns was a free agent after Bury’s expulsion from the EFL last month, and he’s put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.

The thirty-six-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Micky Mellon’s squad, having made more than five hundred appearances during a nineteen-year career.

The Liverpudlian has won four promotions to date with Colchester, Birmingham and Bury. He was part of the Shakers squad that came runners-up to Lincoln City in League Two last season.

Plenty of Tranmere fans soon took to social media to comment on the signing with some questioning whether the club needed a new central midfielder with Darren Potter, David Perkins, Ollie Banks, Jacob Maddox and Harvey Gilmour already competing for a place in the side. Others felt Mellon would have been better off signing a new defender to help shore up a leaky defence while others thought it was a great signing.

Fans of Bury also took the opportunity to wish their former skipper luck on the latest stop in a much-travelled career.

Here is a selection of responses to the signing on Twitter.
