Tranmere Rovers have signed former Bury captain and experienced midfielder Neil Danns.
Danns was a free agent after Bury’s expulsion from the EFL last month, and he’s put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.
The thirty-six-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Micky Mellon’s squad, having made more than five hundred appearances during a nineteen-year career.
The Liverpudlian has won four promotions to date with Colchester, Birmingham and Bury. He was part of the Shakers squad that came runners-up to Lincoln City in League Two last season.
Plenty of Tranmere fans soon took to social media to comment on the signing with some questioning whether the club needed a new central midfielder with Darren Potter, David Perkins, Ollie Banks, Jacob Maddox and Harvey Gilmour already competing for a place in the side. Others felt Mellon would have been better off signing a new defender to help shore up a leaky defence while others thought it was a great signing.
Fans of Bury also took the opportunity to wish their former skipper luck on the latest stop in a much-travelled career.
Here is a selection of responses to the signing on Twitter.
Good signing but do we need him?

36? Going for a bit of experience then. Hope he can boss the midfield. IMHO we've let that side of our game become overlooked. Conor is more of an attacking mid. We need someone who can stop players. Welcome Neil

Good luck Dannzy, once a shaker always a shaker, you couldn't have given this club any more, thank you
