Danny Cowley has agreed on a deal with Huddersfield Town to become their new manager.

David Anderson, the northern football correspondent for the Mirror, tweeted the revelation this morning.

Anderson reports that after initially turning down the Terriers, Cowley and his brother Nicky were persuaded over the weekend by Town chairman and owner Phil Hodgkinson to take the job.

The forty-year-old former teacher will arrive at Huddersfield with the Terriers in free fall. They currently sit next to the bottom of the Championship without a league win and just one point from their first six games.

However, Hodgkinson will be hoping for an upturn in fortunes with the appointment. Cowley is one of the most highly-regarded managers in the lower leagues after guiding Lincoln City from the National League to fifth in League One and winning a trophy in each of the previous three campaigns since taking charge in May 2016.

Our View

Cowley always said it would have to be the perfect opportunity for him to leave Lincoln City and it appears to the delight of many Huddersfield fans that their owner has convinced him Huddersfield is just that chance.

It is a big job, and Cowley will back himself to the hilt, but the Championship is an unforgiving league, and in our view, it is a gamble to leave the security of Sincil Bank, which still offers many challenges, for the cut and thrust of one of the hardest leagues in Europe.

Both Paul Hurst and Nathan Jones backed themselves after excellent CV’s in the lower leagues and Cowley should be mindful he doesn’t go the same way.
