Key Portsmouth figure delivers important Kenny Jackett message

Portsmouth CEO Mark Caitlin has revealed the club have no plans to dismiss Kenny Jackett, nor to review his position in the near future, as reported by the Portsmouth News.

Pompey were without a game yesterday, but languish in the lower reaches of League One, albeit with just a handful of fixtures gone. Some Portsmouth fans are unhappy with manager Jackett, who has seen another season stat in uninspiring form.

Last year they fell away from top spot after a poor run of form, bringing some criticism on the former Wolves boss. However, the club have no plans to review the manager’s position and are not going to be a club who hires and fires at will.

“Honestly, I’ve not had one discussion with Michael (Eisner) about the future of Kenny,” said Caitlin. “I don’t even know how it is even on the radar.”

Eisner is the owner of Pompey, an American-based businessman who has invested heavily into the club.

“He said he wouldn’t be a chairman that sacks their managers willy-nilly,” continued the CEO.

“He said we’d get a manager in, support him, give him a contract and expect it to be honoured and stick by a manager through thick and thin. On the back of two losses, people on social media want us to review Kenny Jackett’s future.

“That’s their opinion – and they’re entitled to their opinion. Our opinion is we’re going to stay true to our word. Since 1904, Kenny has the highest win percentage of any manager we’ve ever had.”

Portsmouth had a blank weekend thanks to international call ups this weekend and are without a fixture next weekend as they were scheduled to play Bury.

Our View

The more reactionary Pompey fans won’t be happy to hear this. After all, Jackett hasn’t only just been hired and they’ve seen his brand of football up close for a while now.

They’re not in dire straights though, they’ve missed lots of matches already and will have plenty to catch up when they finally do get back underway.

Performances will have to pick up after their break though, otherwise it could be a tough autumn for Pompey and Jackett.

  1. It’s not the amount of wins or losses or even the league position. It’s the rediculous subs I.e winning 3-1 against 9 men and he subs to make us defensive and we draw 3-3? Or leave pitman on bench when we’re in need of a goal and then strip him if his captaincy. We suffered his hoofball too long and he now has players who could do damage but he doesn’t play them or does but I’m wrong poasitions .
