Oxford United went down 2-1 to Fleetwood Town yesterday in a defeat that sees them languishing in 20th place.
Paddy Madden opened the scoring for the hosts after 15 minutes, but Oxford got back into the game with a goal from, Elliot Moore just after the half-hour mark.
The two sides were deadlocked at 1-1 until ten minutes from time when veteran defender Peter Clarke gave his side all three points. Robinson wasn’t happy after the game, admitting his side weren’t worthy of the win in the Oxford Mail.
“We didn’t create a great deal, I can’t say we deserved to win,” said the former MK Dons boss.
“I think a draw would have been about the right result. The players know where things lie and the generic basics of a set-piece where you switch off from a second phase is inexcusable.
“We spend hours trying to get it right and we’re disappointed.”
The U’s have only won once all season, that coming against Peterborough United, with two draws bringing their points tally to five from seven matches.
They host struggling Tranmere next weekend, themselves in 17th place, in an early six-pointer at the bottom of the table.
Our View
Oxford haven’t had a good start to the season. They struggled to attract a striker in the summer and their signings haven’t gelled as quickly as Robinson might have liked.
He started badly last season and only turned things around as we got towards the end of the season, but will that be tolerated for another six months?
Maybe by the board, but perhaps not so much the supporters.
