‘We’ve had a brilliant window’ – Lincoln boss hails the Imps summer transfer business as Sheff Wed speculation continues

Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley feels the Imps have performed a ‘minor miracle’ in the summer transfer window and put together a squad capable of competing in League One.

With speculation continuing to link the in-demand manager with a move to Sheffield Wednesday, Cowley sounded like a man excited by his squad and looking forward to the rest of the season.

Speaking to Lincolnshire Live in the aftermath of Lincoln’s 3-1 EFL Trophy defeat at Doncaster last night, Cowley hailed the club’s ‘brilliant window’ and praised the board for their tireless work in helping him put together a ‘really, really competitive squad’ with the limited finances available to the club.

Eye-catching permanent signings such as Jack Payne and Jorge Grant have been cleverly supplemented with astute high-class season-long loans like Tyler Walker, Joe Morrell and their latest addition Jake Hesketh, who the former teacher described as a ‘top, top player.’

LIncoln have also managed to keep hold of all their key players from last season’s march to the League Two title and while a man who’s won a trophy in each of his previous three campaigns will always attract attention from other clubs, the Lincoln boss still appears settled and excited for the future at Sincil Bank.

Our View

Nothing would surprise me in football, but there is little doubt Cowley feels a deep affinity with Lincoln City, a club that gave him his chance to fulfil his dream of managing a professional football club.

Fans will be extremely interested in his comments.

Cowley has always said while his ambitions and those of the club are aligned, he is happy,

The fact he feels the club have the calibre of player to be competitive in League One is an indicator he feels the Imps can kick on this campaign, and for a man who hates the word consolidation, this is crucial.

The speculation will continue, but it will genuinely have to be the perfect opportunity to tempt him, and his brother Nicky away from a club still described, rather unkindly by some of its bigger rivals, as unfashionable.

Whether Cowley considers the Owls that sort of opportunity, remains to be seen, but we doubt it.
