Bolton submit contract offer for former Rangers forward

Bolton Wanderers have submitted a contract offer for former Rangers forward Joe Dodoo according to Football Insider.

The twenty-four-year-old is a free agent after having his deal at Rangers terminated. The attacker had a year left on his contract at Ibrox, but Football Insider claims he agreed to the termination after twenty-seven Gers appearances in the hope of securing a permanent move south.

Bolton signed nine players on Deadline Day in a last-minute dash to build a squad after the drawn-out takeover of the club was finally completed and Doodo is a target according to the report.

Now deemed surplus to requirements by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, the versatile forward spent last season on loan at Blackpool where he scored six goals and provided four assists in twenty-five appearances across all competitions for the League One outfit.

The former Leicester City trainee joined Rangers in 2016 after a spell on loan at Bury. He’s also enjoyed a season with Charlton Athletic scoring two goals in eight outings for the Addicks during the 2017/18 campaign.

Our View

Dodoo will always be remembered fondly by many Rangers fans for a double strike that secured all three points in a dramatic late win at Partick Thistle in 2016, but the truth is he’s never settled at Ibrox and failed to make an impact.

He did well at Bloomfield Road last season and would be an excellent addition for Bolton as they look to shape a team capable of competing in League One.

He’s quick and versatile, being able to play anywhere across the front line which is just the sort of player the Trotters need.
