Bolton are close to adding left-back Joe Bunney to their squad, as reported by Football Insider.
The former Rochdale man has played under Keith Hill before, converting to a full back from a striker under the manager’s watchful eye.
The 25-year-old played 144 times for Dale, scoring 17 goals, before switching to Northampton Town in 2017. The Cobblers struggled during his first season, ending up being relegated to League Two.
He started out at Lancaster City, later plying his trade with Stockport County and Northwich Victoria before being spotted by Rochdale in 2013.
He’s since played on loan at Blackpool, as well as having another stint with Rochdale, but has made a minimal impact with the Cobblers and seems free to leave Keith Curle’s side. He is currently in the last year of his contract at Sixfields.
With a signing due at 2.30pm, it’s looking like Joe Bunney is the next piece of a hastily-assembled jigsaw at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Our View
Joe Bunney wouldn’t be the sort of signing a League One club would usually herald, but to be fair to Bolton these are tough circumstances.
They need professionals in the building, players who can add value to their young players and offer advice as well as cover in key positions.
Plus, Keith Hill knows him and it’s wise to have a general or two in the squad, carrying out the bosses orders.
