‘We’ll be in the divorce court at this rate’ – Plenty of Walsall fans react as club make transfer announcement

Walsall boosted their attacking options yesterday with the loan capture of Salford City striker Rory Gaffney.

He arrived shortly after the 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Grimsby Town which sent the Saddlers to fourth from bottom of the League Two table. Having been relegated last season, manager Darrell Clarke is struggling to get his side firing on all cylinders this season.

He’s hoping that by adding Gaffney to his ranks, he can find a striker who is braver in the final third than his current options. Having seen Morgan Ferrier and Andy Cook leave the club, Walsall fans have yet to see a quality striker join.

Gaffney, who bagged 11 for Salford in the National League last season, has previously played for Clarke at Bristol Rovers in 2015/16 on loan from Cambridge, before moving permanently.

He’s delighted to make the move, telling the Saddlers official site; “I’m absolutely delighted to join the club for the season. It happened pretty quickly over the last few days but when I got the chance to join, I was more than happy to do so.”

That’s not an emotion being echoed by the home supporters though, who are not overly impressed with the capture, nor their start to the season.
