Sunderland’s unbeaten start to the season ended in spectacular fashion yesterday as they were soundly beaten 3-0 by promotion rivals Peterborough United.
Both sides have been tipped for success in pre-season, with the Black Cats having won five games on the bounce after their disappointing opening two results. They’re only ever one bad scoreline away from a crisis though, as yesterday’s defeat proved.
Marcus Maddison, a player linked with Sunderland in the past, bagged two goals as the home side ran riot. Josh Knight scored his first for Posh in-between to hand them their 3-0 win.
Things got worse for the Black Cats when firstly Luke O’Nien was sent off for a confrontation with Ivan Toney, before striker Charlie Wyke received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
The result leaves the two sides in sixth and seventh, with Jack Ross’ outfit just one point ahead of Darren Ferguson’s team. Both will expect to be higher than they currently are by the end of the season.
After the match, Jack Ross claimed that ‘sometimes you just have to take your medicine’, but that’s not something these fans feel is the right thing to say. They’re laying the blame squarely at his feet, despite only losing once this season.

We've been taking JR's medicine for over 12 months. Please lord let this take over happen and let's move forward with a capable manager.
