Sunderland plot Celtic raid for winger

Sunderland are plotting a deadline day raid for out of favour Celtic winger Scott Sinclair as reported by Football Insider.

The Former Man City and Aston Villa forward was left out of the Hoops squad for yesterdays Old Firm clash, and Celtic have told him he can leave Parkhead according to reporter Wayne Veysey.

The report claims Sunderland boss Jack Ross is interested in Sinclair after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Peterborough highlighted the lack of attacking firepower in his squad.

The thirty-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Glasgow giants but is looking to end his three-year spell with Celtic after plummeting down the first-team reckoning under new boss Neil Lennon.

A source at Sunderland has reportedly told Football Insider that the Wearsiders are eyeing a move for Sinclair, who came close to joining Derby County earlier this month.

However, they are likely to face a battle to land his services with several continental outfits also keen on the tricky £30,000-a-week winger.

Our View

Sinclair probably hasn’t had the career that was predicted for him when he burst through the ranks at Chelsea.

He is still an outstanding player for League One level, but on those sort of wages, it would be astonishing if he ended up at the Stadium of Light.

However, Football Insider is a good source, so there could be something in it.

But many Sunderland fans will be asking if he fancies left-back because this is the top priority position for Jack Ross to get filled before the window closes.
