18-year-old England Under 19 winger Arvin Appiah is being linked with a loan move away from the City Ground, with Rochdale one of a number of clubs interested in taking him on a temporary basis, as reported by the Sun’s Alan Nixon.
Appiah is generating a huge amount of interest as he’s also been linked with a permanent move away. It’s believed UD Almeria are interested in paying up to £8m for his services, but Forest are thought to be toying with the idea of a loan move.
They’d be looking to loan him to a League One side, with Rochdale one of several clubs keen on adding him to their roster. Forest also have a very good relationship with Lincoln City, with whom Tyler Walker is currently on loan and has four goals in six outings.
Amsterdam-born Appiah has represented England up to Under 19 level, as well as making six Championship appearances for Forest Under Martin O’Neill.
He doesn’t appear to be in Sabri Lamouchi’s first-team plans, which appears to be leading him away from the City Ground.
Our View
Selling right now would be foolish, although £8m is a big sum of money for a player with such a small amount of first-team experience.
They would be best sending him on a short term loan, possibly to a League One side, with the hope he goes back in January either ready for a shot in the first team, or saleable.
They don’t need the £8m now, they can’t spend it until January so they may as well hold fire and see how he gets on with some senior football under his belt.
