‘Delusional’, ‘What game were you watching?’ – These Lincoln City fans respond to Joey Barton’s comments after win

Lincoln City returned to the automatic promotion spots in the early League One table after overcoming Fleetwood at Sincil Bank.

Two goals in a minute ended up being the difference, both scored by Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker on a season-long loan at Sincil Bank. His first came courtesy of a diving header after superb work by Harry Toffolo.

Within a minute he’d made it 2-0, on-loan Callum Connolly hooked a ball through for the striker to slot past Matt Gilks.

2-0 was a harsh scoreline on the visitors who saw as much of the ball as the Imps. They weren’t able to convert their chances with Ched Evans late effort the closest they came to breaking the deadlock.

Despite that, manager Joey Barton believes his side gave the Imps a lesson, saying; “We came here and barring a 90 second period taught them what League One and what the top end of League One is all about.”

Barton isn’t a popular figure with some sections of the Lincoln support after his antics in their FA Cup fifth-round match with Burnley in 2017. He feigned injury, trying to get Matt Rhead sent off after stamping on the burly striker’s foot.

The home support reminded Barton of that by signing Rhead’s name, despite him leaving for Billericay earlier in the summer. They’ve also taken this opportunity to have their say on Barton’s latest claims.
