Tranmere Rovers target Manchester United defender for a loan move

Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is a Tranmere Rovers transfer target according to Football Insider.

The twenty-two-year-old looked set for stardom when he made fourteen senior outings under former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal in 2015/16, including appearances against Chelsea and Liverpool. His composed performances earnt him a new four-year deal at the end of the season, tying him to Old Trafford until 2020.

However, his United career has stalled in recent years. He is now well down the pecking order at the Premier League giants and spent last season on loan Scunthorpe United after previous spells in the Championship with Leeds and Wolves.

He made twenty-nine League One appearances for the Iron last season as they ended the campaign with relegation to League Two, and reporter Pete O’Rourke claims Tranmere boss Micky Mellon is keen to add a left-back to his squad and is working on a deal to sign the England Under-20 international before the lower league transfer window closes next week.

Our View

One of the commonly asked question by United fans is what happened to Borthwick-Jackson?

He impressed many United supporters during his brief spell in the first-team.

It is a mystery how is career faltered, but then again Jose Mourinho’s time in charge was never going to be suitable for the development of some the youngsters at the club.

A spell under Mellon will do him a power of good at Tranmere, a stable club that might allow him to prosper to a higher degree than he did at Scunthorpe last season.

He is a decent player who needs to find the confidence he seemed to have in abundance a few years ago.

If he does, and buckles down and works hard, he could be an excellent signing for Tranmere.
